Slowwise

Riding a bike notes from a sleepy corner of the west.

What Rohan Taught Me About the Tailwind

I spent most of the evening planning a route, with the radio on. None of this is new, but riding the back roads is new to me. The handlebar bag I bought last autumn finally earned its place. Why cleaning the chain worked is still a bit of a mystery to me.

My notes from last time said: ‘Lower gears are your friends.’ I could have stopped there, but I got caught in a hailstorm as well. It feels like the saddle and I are finally on speaking terms.

I should have known better than to rush riding with loaded panniers. Something a teacher I had years ago used to say keeps coming back:

Patience is cheaper than a new multitool. — My grandmother

I'm still not sure whether it was the climb or the weather. More soon, probably about the chain.
