Two Weeks of Riding to Work
Not much to report over the weekend, apart from a wrong turn onto a main road. Some of a smooth, quiet bike is luck, and I'm fine with that. It's funny how much of cycling is just paying attention. A woman from the touring club would probably have said the same thing about the tailwind.
Looking back, I was too impatient with the gear range. I'm learning that truing a wheel rewards patience more than effort. There's always a risk of a saddle sore, and this time it nearly happened. I think the lesson is to slow down with the touring bike, again.
I don't think cleaning the chain is the whole answer, but it's part of it. A few things I noted along the way with the cafe stop:
- Camped one night on Monday, with Crumpet.
- Then I rode the gravel route, around 20 km/h.
- Got caught in a hailstorm, which took a couple of hours on Friday.
- Rode out for coffee (3 punctures).
I wrote it all down: 42 mm tyres, 44 km, and a note to be more patient. Still a long way from a week-long tour, but closer.
